Grand tour of Greece

Places of interest: Mycenae, Epidaurus, Delphi, Meteora, Dion, Thessaloniki, Pella, Vergina

Duration: 7 days / 6 nights

Day 1: Corinth Canal, Mycenae, Epidaurus

Leave by the Coastal Road to the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive on and visit the Theatre of Epidaurus famous for its remarkable acoustics.  Then drive on to Mycenae and visit the Archaeological Site and the Tomb of Agamemnon, the Lions Gate and the ruined Palace. We continue our journey through Tripolis and Megapolis to the cradle of the Olympic Games. Overnight in Olympia. 

Day 2: Olympia

In the morning we tour Olympia, the site of the first Olympic Games (which ran from 776 BC to AD 393). Major structures include the 6th century BC Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Apollo, Nero's Villa, the Altis Sanctuary and a museum housing superb sculpture displays. We continue our journey across the Corinthian Bay passing Nafpactos and Itea and arrive in Delphi. Overnight in Delphi.

Day 3: Delphi

Delphi is by common consent the most spectacularly beautiful ancient site in Greece.  A visit to Delphi is divided into three parts: the Sanctuary of Apollo with the Stadion; the Castalian spring and the Sanctuary of Athena at Marmaria; and the Museum. Overnight in Delphi.

Day 4: Meteora

We continue or journey northbound to Kalambaka, a small Town situated at the foot of the astonishing complex of Meteora, gigantic rocks. Afternoon visit of the Meteora Monasteries. These monasteries are breathtaking structure sitting atop gray-rock pinnacles jutting over 2km into the Sky(Meteora means "hanging between Heaven and Earth") Visit two of the four or five monasteries still in use and view the ancient manuscripts, ornate icons and Byzantine artefacts. Overnight in Meteora/Kalambaka.

Day 5: Dion, Thessaloniki

Morning departure from Kalambaka via Trikala and Larissa for the Archaeological site of Dion. After the visit of the Archaeological site we continue north to Thessaloniki. It is the second largest city in Greece and the largest city in Northern Greece. Sightseeing of the city and visiting the Archaeological museum of the city before we check in to our hotel. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

Day 6: Pella, Vergina

Morning departure for Pella, the capital city of Alexander the Great! Visit the archaeological site and continue for Vergina to visit the Royal Tomb of King Philip and the interesting museum. Continue our tour to the excavations of Lefkadia visiting the archaeological site before we return to Thessaloniki. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

Day 7: Return to Athens

Free morning. In the early afternoon, return to Athens.
